To have a spring game or not, and, if so, what it looks like, is a big topic coming into the season on he calendar across college football. That includes A-Day down in Tuscaloosa coming up in just over a month on April 12th.

In speaking to the media following the first practice of the spring today for Alabama, Kalen DeBoer discussed the Crimson Tides’ plans for their spring game. He explained it would look similar to last year’s outing, being his first as head coach, with a modified game depending on what the next six weeks look like.

“Yeah, I guess I would consider last year’s spring game, A-Day, probably a modified game, you know,” said DeBoer. “We’ll see how the spring goes,”

With it being the talking point it presently is, DeBoer explained that their biggest focus is just making the most of it considering it’s one of their team’s allotted practices over that timeframe. Beyond that, the Tide will decide how they want it to look like for those in attendance that day.

“To me, it’s just something where we want to have a controlled, controlled reps, you know. So line it up and getting something out of the practice because I think all 15 practices that we get are really important, getting something out of that,” said DeBoer. “As we go through the spring, we’ll continue to figure out where we’re at to see what we want to, want to do when it comes to the, the day itself.”

Few programs are seemingly wanting to do too much in their events due to potential tampering ahead of the spring window of the portal later in April.

Still, the Tide are trying to balance it the best they can between what’s necessary for their team and what their fanbase wants from that afternoon.

“We want to make it a great celebration for the, for our fanbase. We want to put some football out there because we know, you know, everyone associated with the program, our fanbase, you know, can’t wait for April 12th. But we’ve also got to do what’s right for us,” DeBoer said. “So that’s, that’s kind of, would be something, as we get closer, that we can probably give you a little more info on.”
