Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer has added another one of his assistants from Washington to his coaching staff. Bama Online‘s Charlie Potter reported Monday that DeBoer is expected to hire William Inge, who a co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach the past two seasons with the Huskies.

Inge has been a defensive coordinator at Fresno State (2020-21) and was the co-defensive coordinator at Indiana from 2013-15. He played college football for Iowa from 1993-96 and was named honorable mention All-Big Ten as a senior.

Inge is expected to continue to work with the linebackers on DeBoer’s staff at Alabama. He also brings experience as a special teams coordinator at Indiana from 2018-19, so don’t be surprised if he contributes in that area as well. The Crimson Tide have yet to announce a special teams coordinator for the 2024 season.

Inge also brings experience in the NFL, where he spent one year as an assistant defensive line coach for the Buffalo Bills (2012). Other stops include as the linebackers coach at Cincinnati (2008-09) and San Diego State as well as one season as the defensive line coach at Colorado in 2005.

William Inge will join a number of other former Washington staffers who followed DeBoer to Alabama. They include offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard and director of scouting Jerret McElwain.

As DeBoer steps in for Nick Saban, he takes over a team that won the SEC title and made a College Football Playoff appearance in 2023. He’ll hope his new staff can keep that success alive in his inaugural season.

Kalen DeBoer discusses value of bringing Washington transfers with him to Alabama

Kalen DeBoer is bringing a completely new system down to Tuscaloosa with him from Seattle. Both with his offensive scheme and the hiring of defensive coordinator Kane WommackAlabama will still have some talented players but it will look a bit different than when Nick Saban was roaming the sidelines.

To potentially ease the transition process, DeBoer has brought some reinforcements with him from Washington. Not only were most of the offensive coaching staff part of last season’s Husky team but three players have followed DeBoer to Alabama via the NCAA transfer portal.

“Those that have come with us from Washington, there is certainly an understanding of the system,” DeBoer said. “What certain concepts are called and how we teach them. So, hopefully, back on campus, they are picking up on those things. Jalen (Milroe) with Austin (Mack) and having a center like Parker (Brailsford) there. Knows all of the calls and we can hit the ground running here next week when it comes to installing offense and defensive systems.”
