Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer has made the hire of Ryan Grubb as offensive coordinator official. The Crimson Tide announced the move Thursday morning in a press release.

Ryan Grubb is teaming up with DeBoer once again after the two previously worked together at Washington, helping the Huskies to the national championship game during the 2023 season. Grubb served as the offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks this past season.

“Ryan Grubb has been someone that I have trusted for a long time and adding him to our staff only improves the quality of coaches we have here at Alabama,” Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer said in a statement. “He is one of the best offensive minds in the country, and I can’t wait to see what he brings to our organization moving forward.”

Ryan Grubb was the assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Washington in both 2022 and 2023, helping to develop former Washington star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. into a first-round pick.

The Huskies ranked No. 2 nationally in passing offense that season, throwing for 343.7 yards per game, while winning the Pac-12 and reaching the CFP. Washington then beat Michigan in the first round of the playoff, before falling to Georgia in the national title game.

Grubb is looking forward to joining the Alabama program and working to make the Crimson Tide offense elite.

“I’m thankful to get an opportunity to work with Coach DeBoer once again and to be a part of an offensive staff that I am very familiar with,” Ryan Grubb said in the statement. “I am confident that our staff will be able to put the team in the best position to win each time out. I know and trust that this group of coaches and players will work tirelessly to meet the standard that has been set here at Alabama, and I can’t wait to get out on the field with them.”

The Seahawks ranked fifth in the NFL in passing yards this past season, finishing with 4,379. Seattle finished the year with a 10-7 record. Despite the strong showing, Grubb was fired as the Seahawks offensive coordinator at the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Ryan Grubb worked his way up the coaching staff at Fresno State prior to coming to Washington. He was the offensive coordinator at Fresno State from 2019-21. The Bulldogs ranked in the top 10 nationally in passing offense in 2021, throwing for 326.7 yards per game.
