Kadyn Proctor is taking the steps he needed to become an even better player in 2024 according to Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer. The offensive lineman and former five-star has already seen improvements in his conditioning numbers after starting at left tackle in all 13 games.

That progression has been evident with fall practice beginning this week as Proctor figures to be a key member of the offensive line. DeBoer spoke with reporters about what he’s seen from the 6-foot-7, 360 pound tackle in his limited time around him.

“I don’t have a huge understanding of what he was a year ago,” the coach explained. “I watched it on film. But it feels like he’s in really good shape and lean. When you ask people who would have an understanding, it’d be nothing but positives about the progress he’s made.

“Strength and explosive numbers are up. Then also just the way his body looks. Leaner. He’s just so dense. He’s got so much mass he’s gonna be big no matter what. So love his demeanor out there. It’s good to have him back.”

Proctor transferred briefly back home to Iowa this season following the retirement of Nick Saban, but later returned to Tuscaloosa to join DeBoer after spending the spring with the Hawkeyes. It was a big get for DeBoer, as Proctor ranked as the No. 1 offensive tackle from the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He lived up to that billing to finish as All-SEC Freshman Team selection this past season. Proctor recorded 20 knockdown blocks in 743 offensive snaps and will provide valuable protection for Jalen Milroe yet again this season.

Wednesday marked the first practice back for Kadyn Proctor with his former teammates and it appears by the description from DeBoer he is already fitting right back in. His size and strength will be big assets as the Crimson Tide aim to make it back to the College Football Playoff after falling short in the semifinals this past season.

It’s a new era for Alabama football with Saban gone, but familiar faces from last season such as Milroe and Proctor should help ease the transition to a new head coach. The Crimson Tide are set to kick off the 2024 season against Western Kentucky on Aug. 31 in Tuscaloosa.
