Latrell Wrightsell injury: TNT broadcast provides discouraging update on Alabama guard
Alabama star Latrell Wrightsell was injured in an apparent non-contact situation during a game against Oregon, requiring help getting off the floor after the scary scene unfolded.
Wrightsell has been ruled doubtful to return, according to the TNT broadcast crew calling the game.
The Alabama senior crumpled to the floor and held his Achilles. He was then carried off the floor, with Alabama and Oregon tied at 41 with 18:51 remaining in the game.
UPDATE, 12:55 a.m. ET, Dec. 1: According to Jeff Goodman, Alabama coach Nate Oats told The Field of 68 the fear is an Achilles injury for Wrightsell.
Latrell Wrightsell entered Saturday night as the team’s third-leading scorer, averaging 11.7 points per contest. He had scored in double figures in five of the team’s first seven games.
In the game against Oregon, Wrightsell had opened up 3-of-4 from the floor, scoring 10 points. He’d also pulled down one rebound, dished out an assist and come up with a steal, having a well-balanced all around game.
Alabama, of course, is one of the top teams in the country this season, ranked No. 9 nationally. The Crimson Tide are anchored by a strong backcourt, one in which Wrightsell was a key part of.

Guard Mark Sears was a preseason All-SEC selection, and he has averaged 16.7 points so far this season, leading the team. He’ll have to pick up the slack if Latrell Wrightsell is out for any extended period of time.
The Crimson Tide have already put together some excellent results this season, playing one of the more difficult non-conference schedules on offer.
Already the team has racked up wins over No. 25 Illinois and No. 6 Houston, playing in a variety of in-season tournament events. The game against Illinois was part of the C.M. Newton Classic, while the Houston game came as part of the Players Era Festival – Impact Tournament.
Alabama led 7-0 Oregon 74-69 with 3:50 to play at the time of this writing. Of course, all eyes in Tuscaloosa will be on the health of Latrell Wrightsell.
