LOOK: Alabama begins Heisman Trophy push for Bryce Young

Bryce Young is a top candidate to take the Heisman Trophy, and Alabama wants everyone to know why. The Crimson Tide made a case for their quarterback to take college football’s most coveted award via a Twitter post Friday.
In addition to Young’s eye-popping stats from this season, Alabama called attention to his clutch play in last week’s four-overtime victory in the Iron Bowl.
The Crimson Tide trailed Auburn all game until the quarterback put together a heroic fourth-quarter drive. Beginning at his own 3-yard line, Young led Alabama all the way down field, connecting with Ja’Corey Brooks for a 28-yard score to tie the game. The Heisman hopeful was 4-of-10 passing for 85 yards on the drive.
In overtime, Young also refused to back down. He threw yet another touchdown to John Metchie III before also converting a pair of two-point attempts to claim a 24-22 victory.
The win kept Alabama’s hope of a College Football Playoff appearance alive. However, many believe the Tide will need to defeat Georgia to make that dream a reality. No two-loss team has ever made the Playoff.
Young would also see his Heisman stock increase with another impressive performance in the SEC Championship Game. Against the No. 1 defense in the country, that will be easier said than done.
Other potential Heisman candidates include Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud, Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett and Michgan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. Both Pickett and Hutchinson will also play in conference championship games on Saturday.

Bryce Young is currently the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, with Stroud and Hutchinson second and third, respectively.
Only one defensive player has ever won the award, so it seems far-fetched that Hutchinson could take it. However, his three-sack performance in the biggest game of the year against the Buckeyes is difficult to ignore.
The Alabama quarterback has thrown for 3,901 yards and 40 touchdowns this season, the latter of which leads the SEC. He would be the first Crimson Tide quarterback to win the Heisman.
The four Heisman finalists are set to be announced on Monday, and the official ceremony will take place at 8 p.m. ET on Dec. 11.
