Alabama head coach Nick Saban sure looks like he’s enjoying the offseason.

Saban showed up at TPC Sawgrass this week alongside another Alabama national champion: Justin Thomas, who played golf at Alabama from 2012-13 and is currently the No. 8 golfer in the world. That’s quite a bit of championship experience at TPC Sawgrass two weeks before The Players Championship on March 10-13.

Thomas played at Alabama for one season before turning professional in 2013. In that season, he took first place six times and helped the Crimson Tide to the 2013 national championship. He also earned the Haskins Award, which is given to the best collegiate golfer in the nation.

Thomas has 14 career wins on the PGA Tour, including the 2021 Players Championship.

Alabama football had a great year under Saban this year. The Crimson Tide went 13-1 before falling to Georgia in the national championship last month. The future looks bright for Alabama, too, considering the Crimson Tide had the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation this year. They also are set to bring back quarterback Bryce Young and star linebacker Will Anderson next year — two key pieces to this season’s success.

Alabama coach Nick Saban addresses possibility of retirement

Nick Saban didn’t hesitate when addressing the possibility of his retirement. The Alabama coach isn’t planning on hanging up the headset anytime soon, scoffing at the notion in a recently leaked video.

“Everybody asks me when I wanna retire. Retire from what?” Saban said to a crowd of coaches in Montgomery, Ala., last month. “I’m gonna jump into an empty abyss, aight, of what am I going to do? Because the very challenges that I talk about and the things in our profession that concern me – for you and for me both, in your game and our game – that’s what keeps me going. That’s why I get up every day. That’s why I can’t sleep at night sometimes.

“So why would you quit doing that? I haven’t figured that one out yet.”
