Malachi Moore apologizes for on-field meltdown vs. Vanderbilt
Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Malachi Moore released a statement following the lost to the Vanderbilt Commodores. In it, he apologized for his actions late in the loss.
As the game was coming to an end, Moore was having what appeared to be an on-field meltdown. That culminated with Moore getting an unsportsmanlike penalty for kicking the ball once it was set be the officials.
“I want to apologize to my teammates, our coaches, the fans, our alumni and my family for the way I acted on Saturday,” Malachi Moore wrote. “I was completely out of line. I let the emotions of the game get the best of me and put myself before the team.”
“As a two-time captain and a fifth-year player, I understand the standard that we are expected to live up to at Alabama and I failed to do so by acting in a selfish and unacceptable manner. I came back this season to represent myself, this team and this University because it means something to me. I am blessed to be able to wear the ‘A’ on my chest, and I know all that comes with the responsibility of representing this program. I will do better to uphold the standard moving forward, and I will continue to work and improve while conducting myself in a first-class manner.”
Along with the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for kicking the ball, Malachi Moore was seen delivering a late hit on Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, throwing his own mouthguard, and appearing to refuse to come off the field when the staff tried to substitute Bray Hubbard for him. All of that came during an emotional fourth quarter.

Tyler Booker defends Malachi Moore after on-field meltdown vs. Vanderbilt
In the wake of the loss to Vanderbilt, Alabama offensive lineman Tyler Booker defended Malachi Moore and his actions during the game.
“Malachi, he spoke to the team. We all understand where he’s coming from. He’s a competitor, and anybody who has been in a situation like that, anybody who has been here for their fifth year — they would feel the same way… Now, did he go about it the right way? No. But, we all appreciate how much Malachi cares,” Booker said.
“Malachi, he’s so prideful about the University of Alabama. I’ve learned so much about being an Alabama Football player from Malachi. Yeah, he had an emotional moment at the end of the game but when he got into the locker room he was the leader that he needed to be… We all understand where his frustration was coming from.”
