Malachi Moore calls being voted Alabama team captain as big of an honor as you can receive
Alabama‘s regular season is over and that means the team has officially voted on its permanent team captains for the 2023 season. Defensive back Malachi Moore was named one, along with edge rusher Dallas Turner and quarterback Jalen Milroe.
It’s a significant honor, one that gets recognized permanently in Alabama football lore.
“To me, that’s like kind of the biggest honor you can receive here,” Malachi Moore said. “Just being looked at by your teammates and your brothers as a person who leads by example and somebody they can look up to that does the right thing, yeah, it’s truly an honor to be voted a captain by my teammates.”
After using captains on a week-by-week basis during the season, following the regular season the team votes on its permanent captains. Later on those captains will have a ceremony where they put their hands in cement to leave a handprint on campus.
It’s a way of honoring players who are not only terrific players for the Crimson Tide, but tremendous leaders.
Malachi Moore certainly fits the category after having a monster season for the Crimson Tide, who reached the College Football Playoff. He tallied 49 tackles, 5.0 tackles for a loss, an interception and five passes defended.
Dallas Turner also grateful to be honored
Moore wasn’t the only team captain named, and Dallas Turner also met with the media to discuss what being named a captain meant to him.

Spoiler: A whole lot.
“It’s just a blessing to lead the group of guys that we have,” Dallas Turner said. “It’s just something that’s going to be set in stone forever, we come back and put our hands in cement in stuff like that. It’s a big accomplishment, it’s a blessing and I’m just grateful to lead a group of guys like that.”
Dallas Turner turned in an absolutely stellar season for the Crimson Tide, establishing his presence on the defense from Day 1.
He racked up 50 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, 10.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, a pass breakup and 13 quarterback hurries. Those were elite numbers in the Southeastern Conference.
Turner will have an NFL Draft decision coming up, but for now he’ll enjoy the permanent captaincy of his squad. Prior to the end of the regular season, Alabama uses captains on a week by week basis. No longer.
