With injury comes opportunity, and Roydell Williams has the chance to seize just that for the Alabama Crimson Tide. After a knee injury ended running back Jace McClellan’s season this weekend, it’s Williams who figures to see an uptick in opportunities.

It starts this weekend against Texas A&M, as Alabama will look to continue their undefeated season. Prior to the game, Crimson Tide defensive back Malachi Moore spoke about William’s running style.

“Roydell, he’s a great back, and he finishes all the runs at practice,” said Moore. “It’s always a challenge just to throw him up in practice because he’s just such a hard runner. He always tries to finish in everything that he does.”

Evidently, Williams isn’t somebody who the Alabama defense loves to have to tackle in practice. Still, they’re happy he’s on their side when it’s gameday.

Saban: ‘Roydell is a good back.’

Furthermore, Nick Saban elaborated on why he’s confident in William’s ability to fill in for McClellan. He’s already had his semi-breakout game against Southern Miss, and Saban believes Williams has all the traits of a good running back.

“Roydell’s played. Played a lot against Southern Miss — gained 100 yards. Roydell is a good back. He’s got good explosion, he can run behind his pads. He’s tough, he’s got speed and burst, a good receiver. We have a lot of confidence,” said Saban. “Other than the Southern Miss game, he’s carried the ball a few times other than that. But he got some good experience in that game, so hopefully that’ll help his confidence and he’ll be able to take on a bigger role now with the offense. We’re confident that he’s very capable of doing that.”

Moving forward, Williams will be expected to perform against team who’s talent level is much greater than Southern Miss. Luckily, he’ll receive plenty of chances to prove himself.

Bryce Young: ‘You can tell that hard-working attitude he has.’

His coach, his teammates on defense and his quarterback. Evidently, everyone on Alabama is confident in Williams. Following his breakout performance earlier in the season, quarterback Bryce Young spoke about William’s tenacity.

“Roydell’s someone who’s always working hard in the weight room, always working hard in practice, always finishing every rep,” quarterback Bryce Young said per BamaInsider. “I think that really shows. You can tell that hard-working attitude he has and that positivity he brings to the team, it really translates on the field.

“He’s someone who I feel has grown a lot as far as being a lot more comfortable in the offense this year, this being his second year. He’s been able to feel everything out .. been doing really well in practice. … And now, especially with the success he had last game, to see that is super encouraging.”

Roydell Williams will get his chances to shine for Alabama. Now, he has to continue to take advantage of them.
