The Alabama Crimson Tide suffered a massive upset at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners over the weekend. Beyond the surprise of the loss, it also meant that the Crimson Tide now have three losses on the season and could end up being on the outside looking in at the College Football Playoff.

In the aftermath of that game, former Alabama star and current analyst Mark Ingram shared on The Triple Option that he thought it was the worst loss of the weekend.

“I gotta hit too, though, the most devastating loss 1,000 percent is that Alabama loss,” Ingram said. “That Alabama loss was atrocious.”

Going into the game, Alabama was in a good position to make the Playoff as an at-large team. If not that, then the Crimson Tide also were in a position to make it to the SEC Championship Game and, potentially, earn a bye in the first round.

“To have your season on the line, the SEC Championship on the line, the CFP on the line and to go lay an egg when you have everything on the line like that is devastating. It’s a devastating loss,” Ingram said. “We knew that there would be some change coming with Coach [Kalen] DeBoer, there’s always change when a new head coach takes over. But when you inherit that kind of roster, when you’re in the position that you’re in to capitalize and be able to go to the CFP, that was very much attainable. This is a team that has the talent to win a national championship when they’re playing their best football, but when they play bad football they look like a .500 team. It is really bad. There is no in-between. It’s either one of the best teams in the country or a non-bowl eligible team.”

Following the loss, Alabama fell to 13th in the College Football Playoff rankings. That puts the Crimson Tide on the outside looking in at the current Playoff bracket and, while there is still time for things to change in the final two weeks of the season, the loss to Oklahoma could be what keeps them out.

Even with the loss, Kalen DeBoer says he expects his team to finish strong this season.

“I mean, that’s the commitment we make to each other, when we first — when we come in here. You know, we you sign up to play for Alabama, you make that commitment to each other, and the brotherhood. There’s nothing in that room right now that say that there’s anyone saying it’s someone else that needs to be better. It’s win and lose as a team. You know, we made that commitment also, not just for each other, but we’re going to finish, and we’re going to finish everything we do, and that’s a big game next week,” DeBoer said.

“So, we’ve got to regroup. Stick together. The right things are said in there by the guys, as much as they’re hurting, and you know, just keep playing, have pride in who we are and finish the job.”

Alabama will finish the season with the Iron Bowl against Auburn. This season, it will be played in Tuscaloosa.
