Trolling runs deep in the Iron Bowl of Basketball. Seemingly after every game, no matter who wins, one of Alabama or Auburn is taking shots at the other. So once Mark Sears hit his game-winning buzzer-beater on Saturday in Neville Arena, you knew something was coming.

All season, the main celebration from Auburn has been dubbed ‘Call God’ in which they make a phone out of their hands. Guys like Johni Broome and Miles Kelly pull it out after big-time baskets, usually looking toward the crowd for some energy.

Sears decided to pull the move out when on Instagram Live during the postgame celebrations in the locker room. A commentator even changed the name to “Call Sears” after making the biggest shot of them all.

Usually, the Crimson Crane is at the center of the trolling between Alabama and Auburn. Dating back to the 2020 Iron Bowl in football, the pose transferred to basketball in the following months. Auburn uses it to make fun of Alabama after wins, while the Crimson Tide would piggyback their football team when taking down the Tigers.

We saw as such during the game in Tuscaloosa this year. Auburn players went to midcourt following the final buzzer, hitting the Crimson Crane in Coleman Coliseum. Grant Nelson responded on Saturday during the game itself, dunking over Dylan Cardwell before using the pose in front of Broome and getting emotions high.

Pulling out the reverse “Call God” is certainly a new one in this rivalry. Maybe, similar to the Crimson Crane, it’s something we will see in the coming years of Alabama-Auburn matchups.

More on Mark Sears, game-winning shot against Auburn

Sears has been on an absolute heater down the stretch for Alabama. In the past five games, 21 has been his lowest point total, with three 30-point games. Nobody in college basketball has been scoring as well as the Muscle Sholes, AL, native as of late.

However, Auburn did a great job of keeping Sears in check. Just nine points from him on three of nine shooting. Only one three-point attempt went through too on four attempts. Not the type of performance Alabama fans have become accustomed to from Sears.

None of it matters besides the shot he hit in overtime to win the game. Nate Oats drew up the play for Sears despite the off night, being rewarded with a moment Alabama will remember for a long time.
