Nate Oats addresses his technical foul in win against LSU
Nate Oats received a technical foul during Alabama’s victory over LSU over the weekend, but the Crimson Tide leader wasn’t sweating it.
Sometimes it simply has to be done. That’s the way Oats looked at it afterwards, believing his team needed some juice at the end of the first half. Getting the technical helped lead Alabama on a run, and give them what they needed at the moment, so the Crimson Tide leader was all good with it.
“I didn’t like the calls that preceded it,” Oats put it bluntly, during his press conference after the win. “I thought, you know, if you got one call on one end, and another call on the other end, I thought Aaron [Estrada] got fouled on the turnover, and the one on Grant [Nelson] was a little soft, but I could be wrong. I might, when I go back and look at the video, it wouldn’t be the first time I’m wrong about some calls.
“So sometimes, we need a little energy too. I thought the crowd got a little energized after that. Sometimes you go on a run to close the half. We went on a little bit of a run there. Not enough, but enough. We ended up with a six-point lead at the half.”
Alas, Oats killed two birds with one stone. He motivated his team, and he got to give his two cents to the officials during the game. He didn’t like some of the calls that were going against Alabama, and he was going to let them know.

Regardless, Alabama might’ve been able to get the job done without Oats’ technical, but it certainly didn’t hurt. When it was all said and done, the Crimson Tide’s 109-88 put a stamp on a fun afternoon in Tuscaloosa.
13,474 fans were on hand to witness Alabama’s win over their SEC rival, and it was Mark Sears leading the charge for the team. The Crimson Tide guard accumulated 21 points during the game, which played a huge role in Oats’ team getting the win.
Now, Alabama will take their 14-6 record on the road on Wednesday, when they’ll face the Georgia Bulldogs, who are looking pretty solid to start the season, possessing the same record as the Crimson Tide. It won’t be a walk in the park.
Time will tell if Nate Oats has to get T’d up again for Alabama to win, but another victory for the Crimson Tide could help them continue their impressive run they’ve been on in January.
