In the second half of Wednesday’s win against Ole Miss, a technical foul was assessed to Alabama head coach Nate Oats. Nothing particularly new this season for Oats, who has been rung up quite a few times already. However, this one was a bit more confusing than usual and nobody watching the game was quite sure why it was called.

During his postgame press conference, Oats revealed he got in trouble for having the words with the official over a non-call. He said not calling similar fouls on both sides of the floor can get him riled up. Oats felt like Alabama should have gotten a call in one particular sequence after something similar, in his eyes, was called against them.

“That’s the thing I get most upset about,” Oats said. “The matching calls. I thought we got fouled in the post right after they just called one. So, I was talking to Bart — one of his partner’s calls. He didn’t like what I said about it.”

At the time of the technical, Alabama was sporting a 62-56 lead over Ole Miss. Allen Flannigan stepped up to the free throw line and sunk one out of two. Alabama got the ball right back though, with Rylen Griffen sinking a three-pointer. All things considered, when looking back, not too much damage done by Oats.

Nate Oats happy with responses from Alabama after ‘awful start’

Alabama did not get off to a great start and Ole Miss, seemingly destined to have another battle on the road ahead. However, the scoring really picked up in the final 30 minutes of the game and the Crimson Tide once again scored more than 100 points.

Oats was not too pleased with how his team performed in the beginning. However, some of the stops required to get back into the game and eventually pull away came. It’s something Alabama has experience in, even if Oats is not a fan.

“That was with our awful start,” Oats said postgame. “So at any point, [I know that] we can go on a 10-0 run in a short amount of time. We just need to sit down, get stops, and we can make some runs. I think we’ve done it. We weren’t down late. We were doing a lot bigger late against Georgia, but we were down 10 with about nine minutes to go against Florida not that long ago. So we’ve been down.”
