Bryce Young did more than save the season for Alabama on Saturday — he made his case stronger to be the first overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.

While Young already has an inside track, his cold-blooded game-winning drive against Texas proved he can get the job done with all the chips in the middle of the table. Afterwards, Jim Nagy — the Executive Director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl — revealed some unique praise he’s hearing from an NFL scout regarding the Alabama quarterback.

“Texting with longtime NFL scout who was at Alabama/Texas game on Saturday. Asked him what his main takeaway was. His reply: ‘The QB (Bryce Young) has the right nervous system.’ Well said,” tweeted Nagy.

Evidently, the right nervous system is no nerves at all, as Young is calm, cool and collected no matter the score. What the Crimson Tide signal caller did in the face of the Texas pass rush on multiple occasions proved his mettle, and likely endeared him even more to NFL teams moving forward.

Additionally, Bryce Young had another potential Heisman moment on Saturday, forcing a Longhorns defender to go flying over his shoulder as he slipped away from a sack at the game’s most pivotal juncture. If the Alabama quarterback can continue his impressive streak, another award could be in his future, along with many more accolades.

Nick Saban details 4th quarter confidence in Bryce Young

Continuing, Alabama barely survived a trip to Austin unscathed, beating Texas, 20-19, thanks to some late heroics from quarterback Bryce Young and clutch kicks from Will Reichard. After the game, head coach Nick Saban said his confidence in those two was never in doubt.

Young led Alabama down the field on back-to-back go-ahead scoring drives in the fourth quarter, including a drive with less than two minutes to set up a game-winning field goal for Reichard. Saban didn’t have a doubt in either.

“I knew he’d do a good job in 2-minute. He always does,” Saban said postgame according to SI’s Ross Dellenger.

Young, for his part, was his usual cool, collected self in the critical moments. He said as much after the game.

“That’s where we love to be at. I feel comfortable in those position,” Young said.

Young was held in check most of the day by a voracious Texas defense. But he managed to produce some late-game magic to save help save the day for the tide, with a big assist from Reichard.

“Game winner today. I had total confidence in him,” Saban said.
