The absence of Alabama Crimson Tide freshman wide receiver Agiye Hall did not go unnoticed on Saturday. The Tide beat up Tennessee to the tune of 52-24 to move on to 7-1 but the media still wanted answers from Nick Saban on Hall.

“You guys are really good at taking roll,” Saban said post-game.

“You know, what we do with our players on our team is kind of our business,” he said. “We’re encouraging guys to do the right thing, whether it’s personally, academically. We have protocols, you know when guys miss so many things, they don’t get to play in a game. That’s always been the rule around here.

“I’m not going to disclose and I don’t think it’s anybody’s business when we’re trying to get players to do the right thing and we use playing time and opportunities in football to get them to do the right thing.”

Hall hasn’t caught a pass since Bama played Miami in Week 1. He had one catch for 10 yards.

Though the freshman didn’t suit up, Saban’s answer after the game indicates that he’s still on the team. It at least brings some clarity after the Florida native tweeted out following last week’s game that he was done. The tweet said, “Yeah nah, calling it quits,” before Hall deleted it. He’d gotten in on four plays versus Mississippi State.

It sounds like Saban isn’t going to cave when it comes to “doing the right thing,” even if it’s for a former five-star receiver.

Hall’s father had some choice words for critics of his son on Saturday.

Hall topped 2021 class of receivers

Coming out of high school in Valrico, Florida, Agiye Hall was the No. 1 receiver in the country, according to the On300 for 2021.

After enrolling a semester early, Hall had a coming-out party during the Tide’s annual spring game. He posted four receptions for 72 yards.

Hall has struggled to satisfy Nick Saban’s requirements of his players this season. After Week 1, the head coach addressed Hall’s role.

“We’d like to see Agiye become a part of the offense,” Saban said. “He’s got a lot of talent and a lot of ability. I think [he needs] consistency in performance and making good choices and decisions. On a day-to-day basis to do the right things. Whether it’s on the field, off the field, you know, in academics. Whatever it is. Because those things really prove dependability. And we try to get our guys to understand that dependability is really important in their life for them to be successful.”

Saban continued, “He’s getting better and better. He’s had some good weeks, so hopefully, he’ll be contributing sometime soon.”
