Jase McClellan hasn’t seen game action for Alabama since tearing his ACL in October 2021. As training camp enters the home stretch, Nick Saban said he likes what he’s seeing.

McClellan suffered the injury against Ole Miss and only played in five games last season as a result. Now, he’s hoping to play a role in a revamped Crimson Tide backfield, headlined by Georgia Tech transfer Jahmyr Gibbs. Through camp, Saban said McClellan hasn’t had any restrictions and made quite an impression.

“He’s done great,” Saban said. “He’s really played well. No limitations, no limitations at scrimmages, no limitations in practice. Explosive, made some really good runs in the last scrimmage. Made a lot of people miss. Good receiver, can play with power. He’s done really well.”

In his five appearances last season, McClellan totaled 191 rushing yards and a touchdown while also doing work in the passing game, bringing in 97 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Harrell suffered a sprained foot during camp, Saban told reporters in his Wednesday night press conference. However, he’s getting more work in during practice leading up to Alabama’s Week 1 matchup with Utah State and is starting to gain confidence on the field, Saban said.

“First of all, he had a sprained foot for a while, so he wasn’t able to practice all the time,” Saban said. “But now, probably the last scrimmage and this week — Tuesday, Wednesday of this week — he’s starting to get more reps.

“I think he’s starting to get more confident. I do think that he’s a guy that, because of his speed, can help us. I think he’s got to continue to make progress and we’re certainly working with him and he’s had a great attitude about doing it. We’ll just sort of keep on keeping on with him.”
