Tim Watts On Alabama's Nick Saban Enjoying Life

Alabama‘s win on Saturday against Kentucky was an important one for a few reasons. First, they stayed alive in the College Football Playoff race, only having one loss on the season. But a spot in the SEC Championship has been clinched as well. Nick Saban will make another appearance in Atlanta and has won the SEC West in the last season of divisions in the conference.

Turns out, more than just a trip to Atlanta was earned for Saban with the win. He also earned a nice bonus from winning the SEC West. His next paycheck will have an extra $75,000 added onto it, adding to a nice pool of bonus money Saban has already earned this season.

“Alabama coach Nick Saban will add a $75,000 bonus as Crimson Tide clinches SEC West title and berth in conference title game by beating Kentucky,” Steve Berkowitz said via X. “Saban now has $165,000 in bonuses so far this season.”

The contract Saban has is well-known, with him being the highest-paid head coach in all of college football. He is making an average of around $11.7 million and it rolls through the 2029 regular season. While there has always been a lot of wondering when Saban would step away from the game, his contract has him locked down for quite a while.

Saban likely does not care too much about the bonus at the moment. His biggest worry is going to be Alabama preparing for next week’s game against Chatanooga. No matter the opponent, the Alabama head coach has made sure his team keeps the same mindset throughout the week.

Alabama, Nick Saban awaiting opponent in SEC Championship

In the history of the SEC West, nobody represented the division more in the championship game than Alabama. On nearly a yearly occasion, they would find a way to get to Atlanta, usually being part of a run toward the national championship game or a College Football Playoff appearance.

Now, Alabama will wait to see who they will be playing on Dec. 2. Georgia has the opportunity to lock up the SEC East on Saturday night with a win against Ole Miss. Even with a loss, the Bulldogs will be in the driver’s seat to win the division.

Everything points toward another classic matchup between Saban and Kirby Smart. College Football Playoff lives could be at stake, depending on how other results shake out across the country.
