Nick Saban breaks down first interception by Jalen Milroe, sideline demeanor
Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe threw two key interceptions in the loss to the Texas Longhorns. After the game, head coach Nick Saban broke down the first interception that Milroe threw.
Saban explained that it would be hard for him to say if the interception made Milroe tentative later on. However, he did admit it was a bad decision.
“I can’t really answer that, probably a better question to ask him,” Nick Saban said. “They kind of came with a corner from the backside and they rolled the coverage. We were in trips and I don’t think he saw the thing roll up and it was a poor decision.”
One of the biggest concerns about Jalen Milroe coming into this season was turnovers. He played a clean game against Middle Tennessee State in Week 1 but threw two interceptions in the loss to Texas. Despite that, Saban didn’t notice any changes in his demeanor on the sidelines.
“But, I didn’t see a bad look from him on the sidelines ever. He was into it, he was talking to Tommy [Rees], he was getting new information. So, he certainly didn’t get the poor me’s over any of it. He was competing like crazy and came back and made some really great plays,” Saban said.
“I mean, we had a chance. We got ahead in the game with what 11 minutes to go in a game or something. So, anyway.”

Jalen Milroe and Alabama will look to bounce back on the road this Saturday. That’s when the Crimson Tide will take on the USF Bulls out of the AAC.
How should Alabama use Jalen Milroe?
Following the loss to Texas, BamaOnline‘s Tim Watts appeared on the Andy Staples On3 show. There, he explained how he thinks Alabama should be using Jalen Milroe.
“To me, the first question is what is Milroe? We know what we think he is. How are you going to use him? You can’t really put in an AJ McCarron gameplan for him, or a Bryce Young gameplan. You’ve almost got to use him like a Blake Sims,” Watts said.
“He’s going to throw the ball deep. Let him power run. Again, he’s built like Herschel Walker. He’s a big, muscular, weight-lifting guy back there. If you’re going to run him, run him, have a meaning to him. Now, having said that, Texas did a nice job containing Milroe and forcing him to operate from inside the pocket more often than not.”
