Nick Saban compares his acting skills to Bryce Young, explains what makes him a special person
Nick Saban and Bryce Young both spend plenty of time in front of a camera when they’re not preparing for football games. They’re in their share of commercials — Saban notably with Aflac and Young starring in Dr. Pepper’s “Fansville” campaign as part of his NIL deal.
During preparation for games, Saban goes over film to see where Young and the rest of the Alabama players can improve. As for commercials, postgame analysis doesn’t happen, although Saban knows who the better actor is.

“[Bryce has] got me by a long shot,” Saban said on “Hey Coach and the Nick Saban Show” Thursday night. “‘A,’ he’s better looking. ‘B,’ he’s got a great personality for and disposition, I think, for what he does, and I’m really impressed for a young guy like himself to be able to do that like he does is really impressive.”
As great as Saban thinks Young is as an actor, he also thinks his Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback is an even better person. The question came from media guest Nick Kelly of The Tuscaloosa News, who spoke about how well Young handles himself in his press conferences. Saban said that stems from Young’s personality, and it’s rare someone says a bad word about him — if it even happens at all.
“I think that Bryce is very bright,” Saban said. “He is well-spoken. But he’s got a great family. Really has really good values in terms of right and wrong. Sometimes, people can see and understand things from somebody else’s perspective, and I think he does a really good job of that, too, which creates an understanding of how to treat other people, I think, in a really positive way.

Nick Saban is known to go off-script when he appears in commercials and movies
Saban has previously told the story about his cameo in “The Blind Side” when he wanted to go off-script. The director let him, and that’s the cut that made the movie.
But apparently, it happened again. Saban filmed a commercial for Regions Bank in 2018 where he helped a college student with her online shopping. Chris Stewart, who’s filling in as the host of “Hey Coach and the Nick Saban Show” for Eli Gold, said he noticed Saban seemed more relaxed. He asked if the coach went off script and talked to the actress naturally.
He confirmed that.
“That’s exactly the way it worked,” Saban said with a smile. “You took the words right out of my mouth.”
