It was already a rough go for Alabama early on against Tennessee on Saturday. But things went from bad to worse after a costly special teams mistake — and Nick Saban was, understandably, furious.

The Crimson Tide defense held strong and forced the Volunteers to punt from their own 32-yard line. But the kick was touched and fumbled by Quandarrius Robinson, leading to a Tennessee recovery deep inside Alabama territory. The Vols wasted no time capitalizing as Princeton Fant took one two yards for a touchdown to make it a 28-10 Tennessee lead.

Saban’s reaction after the fumble said it all, though.

Tennessee came out firing in the first half and hasn’t looked back. Hendon Hooker is off to a hot start at quarterback for the Vols, completing eight of his first 10 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns through more than a quarter of action while also rushing for 22 yards.

Bryce Young battles shoulder injury with trainers during Tennessee game

Reigning Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Bryce Young continued to battle a shoulder injury with trainers throughout the Tennessee game. Young was a game-time decision to start for the Crimson Tide as he continues to recover from a shoulder sprain he suffered two weeks ago against Arkansas that kept him out of last week’s game with Texas A&M.

Despite being on the field and looking ready to lead the team, Young continued to battle his injury on the sideline when not in the game — with team trainers trying to keep his shoulder loose.

CBS provided an update on Young’s injury status as the team took the field trailing Tennessee 21-7 early.

“After the last offensive series, Nick Saban got the entire offense together in the huddle — spreading some words of wisdom if you will to this team. Now as far as Bryce Young though, the trainers are using what looks like a ‘stim machine’ on his shoulder that would send electric pulses to keep that muscle loose,” explained Jenny Dell.
