Nick Saban gives update on Jameson Williams injury after the game
After the game, many are concerned about the status and severity of the injury suffered by Alabama receiver Jameson Williams in the national championship game. Williams, a star wide receiver for the Crimson Tide, went down with a non-contact injury in the second quarter of Alabama’s national championship contest with Georgia. His injury came shortly after Alabama lost wide receiver John Metchie to a torn ACL in the SEC Championship.
As Saban took to the podium after the game, he revealed the information he currently knows about his speedy wide receiver’s leg injury.
“Well, he has a knee injury. We won’t know the extent of the knee injury until we get an MRI. He actually wanted to play in the second half, and the medical staff wouldn’t let him,” said Saban.
As we all know Williams never did return to the game. Instead, he was seen on the sideline later in his game jersey but absent his pads and helmet.
“I think it was smart because he has a future as a football player.”
Alabama had an excellent thanks to Williams’ big catch. On first-and-10 from Alabama’s own 26-yard line, Young dropped back in the pocket and found Williams wide open in the middle of the field for a big 40-yard gain. However, shortly after crossing midfield, Williams was met by a Georgia defender and appeared to buckle his knee as he made his way to the turf.

Saban reveals to Smart the possible severity of the injury
At the end of the game, Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby smart and the Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban shared an embrace after a hard-fought battle. With Smart being one of Saban’s former and most loyal assistant coaches, the Alabama head coach had nothing but praise for his former assistant. But what is caught on the audio was a possible update on Alabama receiver Jameson Williams who left the game early with a leg injury.
As the two embraced in the middle of the field, Saban pointed out what most were thinking but hadn’t said out loud.
“You kicked our ass in the 4th quarter.”
After another hug, Smart, being concerned with the well-being of Williams asked about the receiver’s injury and how he was doing. And on this video, you can hear coach Saban reveal what they believe the injury to be.
