WATCH: Nick Saban, Jim Furyk talk about golf, SEC rivalries at Regions Pro-Am
Alabama head coach Nick Saban participated in this week’s Regions Tradition Pro-Am tournament at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama which raises money for charity. Alongside some of the biggest names in the state, he got a chance to pair up with a pro on the course and have some fun.
Nick Saban joined forces with Jim Furyk, who won the U.S. Open in 2003 and has finished inside the top five of every major tournament throughout his career. The two appeared to have a good time talking golf, football and more in front of the cameras.
“I have a great respect for these guys who can do this consistently, because I think it’s one of the most challenging games out there,” said Saban. “So it’s always fun to see somebody do it as well as he does.”
Jim Furyk also provided his thoughts on Nick Saban, taking a quick jab at Auburn in the process.
“The coolest thing I think about the game and playing professionally is just getting to meet so many amazing people,” said Furyk. “So folks that are successful in what they do, great people, whether it’s football coaches, athletes, actors, businessmen or women. We just get to meet a bunch of great folks.
“So to be out here with coach today and see how much the state, how much Birmingham loves him. I’ve seen like an Auburn mascot running around, but I’ve seen maybe three Auburn t-shirts. I’ve seen about 4 billion Alabama t-shirts, so well loved in the state. It’s fun to watch.”
Nick Saban and Jim Furyk talk golf, football
Nick Saban and Jim Furyk happened to talk with the camera crew while Nick Saban’s ball sat in the woods, leading him to not want much conversation about his swing. However, his partner had plenty good things to say.

“We’re talking about his swing,” said Furyk. “And he said he sucks it inside a little bit, but he drives it really good. Although right now we’re walking toward the woods. Why are we doing that? Why are we walking toward the woods, coach?
“I drew it back inside,” responded Saban.
In exchange for the golf tips, Saban took time to evaluate where he could play Furyk on the football field if he decided to switch professions at 51-years old.
“He looks like a wide receiver to me,” said Saban. “Maybe put a little weight on him, making him a tight end or an h-back.”
“I probably have the speed for defensive line and the body of a small punter,” responded Furyk.
“Maybe outside ‘backer, you know?” asked Saban, possibly providing Will Anderson some competition for his spot in the starting lineup.
