WATCH: Nick Saban, Justin Thomas do the wave at Alabama basketball game
Alabama had some big names at its game against Arkansas on Saturday at Coleman Coliseum. Head football coach Nick Saban and PGA Tour golfer Justin Thomas were in attendance — and the two appeared to be having fun.
Saban and Thomas participated in the wave during the matchup. It was a fun moment during the game as Alabama searches for its league-leading 15th SEC win of the season.
Thomas had a good laugh about it, too.
Saban and Thomas are well-known friends and play golf together. In fact, last year before The Player’s Championship, the two played at TPC Sawgrass. Thomas also played at Alabama for one season before turning professional in 2013. In that season, he took first place six times and helped the Crimson Tide to the 2013 national championship. He also earned the Haskins Award, which is given to the best collegiate golfer in the nation.
Alabama expected to hire Liberty’s Robert Bala as next inside linebackers coach
Another Liberty coach could be headed to the SEC for the 2023 college football season.
Liberty defensive analyst Robert Bala has emerged as the top target for Alabama’s inside linebacker job, On3’s Matt Zenitz confirmed. He has been offered the position and is expected to accept sometime next week.

Bala, who was previously the defensive coordinator at Southern Utah in 2020 and ‘21, worked primarily with Liberty’s safeties. He will replace Austin Armstrong, who was hired as Florida‘s defensive coordinator earlier this week after Patrick Toney left the Gators for an opportunity in the NFL.
Alabama is coming off a so-called down season, missing the College Football Playoff for the just second time. The Crimson Tide ended up winning the Sugar Bowl, and is expected to be back in the SEC and national championship picture once again this season.
