Nick Saban on his picks on ESPN College GameDay: 'Miss Terry just completely kicks my ass'
In his first season after his legendary coaching career came to an end, Nick Saban has moved into the media and is an analyst for ESPN College GameDay. It’s a role that fits him well, except for actually picking games.
While at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club in Birmingham Saban was asked about his favorite part of being on College GameDay and he joked about his picking ability, even admitting that his wife, Miss Terry, has him beat there.
“Sitting by [Pat] McAfee,” Nick Saban joked. “Being able to make no consequence picks. I might be the worst picker in the history of all. I mean, Miss Terry just completely kicks my ass on GameDay in front of the whole world. I mean, how bad is that?”
Miss Terry was even able to prove that she’s the better picker. She was selected as the celebrity guest picker ahead of Alabama hosting Georgia earlier in the season. There, she went 7-2 on her picks, beating Nick Saban for the week, who went 6-3 on his picks. That mark of 7-2 remains among the best of any guest picker all season long.
Of course, Miss Terry didn’t just beat Nick Saban. With the better record picking games, she also earned bragging rights, and Saban went on to confirm that she lets him hear about it when he’s home.
“You better believe it,” Saban smiled.
On those selections, were on the same page for six picks and differed on three. In those three differing picks, Miss Terry correctly took Colorado to beat UCF and Notre Dame to beat Louisville while Saban only had Duke beating North Carolina.

Of course, both Nick Saban and Miss Terry correctly picked Alabama to beat Georgia, and they were seen in a box taking in the game that night. After spending 17 seasons at Alabama and winning six national championships in Tuscaloosa, watching from the stands must’ve been a unique experience for Saban.
Now, Nick Saban just needs to get a bit better at picking games so he can beat Miss Terry the next time she’s on the ESPN College GameDay set.
Nick Saban addresses if Alabama has maintained its standard so far under Kalen DeBoer
Since Nick Saban left Alabama, the Crimson Tide replaced him with Kalen DeBoer who has now lost two out of three games, making some question the job he’s doing. However, Nick Saban doesn’t think it’s for him to judge if DeBoer has maintained the standard in Tuscaloosa.
“I don’t think that’s for me to judge,” Saban said. “I know everybody’s giving their best effort to do the best they can. I would just encourage everybody to stay focused on playing to the standard — not my standard — but the standard that their team has established. And I’m sure the players want to do that and I’m sure the coaches want to do that.”
