In recent years, Alabama has become known for having dominant wide receivers. In turn, this has created an expectation that Nick Saban and the current staff will continually have great receivers moving forward. That’s, of course, easier said than done.

Nick Saban has recruited well and proven that he can develop good players into great ones. However, now that the season is here, the wide receivers need to prove that they can perform on the field.

While speaking to the media, Nick Saban gave his thoughts on how those young wide receivers have performed to this point.

“I thought Kobe Prentice is a young player who played really well in the game,” Nick Saban said during Wednesday’s SEC coaches’ teleconference. “I think Isaiah Bond played really well in the game. I don’t know exactly what you mean by new, whether it’s just freshman or some of the older players, but Jermaine Burton played well.

“So I was really pleased with the way that group in total – guys returning as well as the newcomers – performed in the game

Nick Saban previously praised Prentice

This wasn’t the first time that Nick Saban had praised Kobe Prentice. After the freshman earned a start in Week 1, Saban thought that Prentice had done a great job taking advantage of an opportunity that was given to him, and he said as much.

“Kobe has done a really good job, he did a great job in the game,” Nick Saban said. “He’s got an opportunity because JoJo (Earle) got hurt… he took advantage of it. He’s a bright guy, he’s got really good speed, really good hands, he’s exactly what we look for to play in the slot.
