Much of the music that Alabama head coach Nick Saban and his wife, Terry Saban — AKA Miss Terry — enjoy while out boating during their free time is a lot of what you might expect for a couple that came of age through the second half of the 20th century. Rock, mostly, with some country and pop mixed in.

But the Sabans have two children, Nicholas and Kristen, who have added a distinctly younger vibe to the boating playlist. It’s a topic Saban briefly covered while on his coaches radio show on Saturday night ahead of the College Football Playoff semifinals.

“Well we’ve got a lot of them, man. We listen to music all the time on the boat. So we have boat music. A lot of [The] Eagles, a lot of Michael Jackson, a lot of Rolling Stones. Lots of good music. But Nicholas my son and Samira [his wife], they’re in the new generation. And Kristen. So they have their songs that we have to add, like ‘Business’ and what’s the other one I like, Samira? What’s that one? Oh, ‘Dance Monkey,’ yeah. So they bring some new life to the party from the 70s,” Saban said.

Dance Monkey” by Tones and I was released in 2019 and went on to viral fame and success, as did “The Business” by Tiësto, released in 2020, which Saban referred to by its memorable hook.

So now one can confidently imagine one of the most successful college football coaches ever, known for often blowing his stack on the sideline, jamming to some viral hits you may have heard on TikTok while out on the lake with friends and family.

And Saban filled viewers and listeners in on another tidbit.

He was asked the last time he and Miss Terry had “to get out there on the jet skis and just rip it up a little bit?”

Saban, chuckling, said it hasn’t been too long.

“The last time we were at the lake,” Saban said.

Saban shared he’s feeling just fine despite coaching into his 70s

A lot of questions have been asked about Alabama and its players. One caller decided to take a different approach, asking Saban about himself. Being 72 years old, there is a continual wonder about when Saban would retire. Well, he assured all the fans out there that he feels fine.

“I’m doing just fine,” Saban said while laughing. “I appreciate the fact that you’re 68 and I can relate. You know, when you get a little older, sometimes you don’t sleep as well as you used to. Things like that. But we’ve learned to overcome all of those things and we’re doing just fine.”
