Nick Saban revealed his thoughts on Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding as a recruiter. Evidently, Saban has immense respect for his assistant’s ability to bring the most talented defenders to Alabama.

“I think Pete has a great personality,” stated Saban. “I think he spends a lot of time with players. And I think it’s all about relationships.

“I know that we have a good product here — Pete does a great job of selling that product. But I think in the end, the players know that he cares about them. Players don’t really know what you know until they know that you care. And you know, Pete’s got a great personality — I think he really works hard at it. He’s a really good coach, and he has a good relationship with the players on our team.

“I think when players talk to the players on our team, they sort of get that feed back. That’s all helpful in-terms of players feeling comfortable here. Knowing they have a good relationship with the coach that recruited them, but also with the coach that is going to coach them, and a lot of the other people involved with the organization. Pete does a good job of selling all those things in a positive way.”

As you can see, Golding recognizes that the Alabama brand speaks for itself. Instead of pushing it on athletes, he uses his vibrant personality to fill in the blanks. It’s a system that’s worked well for Saban and Golding, and helped Alabama remain the most consistent team in the game.

More on Nick Saban, Alabama Crimson Tide

While Nick Saban praised one of his coordinators, he was asked about the potential departure of his offensive coordinator. Continuing, Saban was asked about the potential departure of Bill O’Brien to the NFL.

“Bill’s done a great job for us here,” Saban said in his National Signing Day press conference. “Bill’s had a very successful career. I don’t think Bill’s trying to leave. I think he likes it at Alabama, and we have an opportunity with some pretty good players at the quarterback position and other positions to maybe continue to grow and develop here offensively, and I think he’s looking forward to that challenge.

“I’m saying all that to say this. I’ve always been one that guys that work hard and do a good job for you, if they get opportunities to go someplace else, I want to support them and help them if it benefits them and their family. But we have no indication (that O’Brien is leaving) other than what y’all put on the internet right now, which is a lot of maybes. So we’re really not trying to address something that might happen.”

Bill O’Brien may end up back at the next level. However, it’s not worth the time of Nick Saban until there’s something concrete to go off of.
