Nick Saban reveals how he'll celebrate 72nd birthday during Alabama bye week
This week is the bye week for Alabama football, but not for Nick Saban and his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, which went on as scheduled Thursday afternoon.
As part of this week’s chat, McAfee pressed Saban on what the off week looked like for him. McAfee is a big car guy and really wanted to know if Coach Saban had taken his own sweet ride, a Ferrari, out for a country drive alongside Miss Terry.
“I’m sure I’m obsessive-compulsive, but I only drive the Ferrari on Wednesday if it’s not raining,” answered Saban. “So, that’s kind of the program.”
So, perhaps he took those slick wheels for a spin around Tuscaloosa the day prior. As for this weekend, though, Saban is celebrating his 72nd birthday. He actually turns 72 on Halloween but said he’s heading to the lake to kick back and enjoy his special day with some friends.
“But we will go to — it’s my birthday coming up on Halloween, so we always go to the lake. We have a birthday dinner with a bunch of our friends on Saturday and turn around and come back.”
Work is never too far away for Coach Saban, though. Even as he takes some time outside of the Alabama football facility, the LSU scouting report remains at an arm’s reach.
“But it’s enjoyable, even though I still watch film and I’ll be looking at LSU cut-ups and all that stuff. It’s enjoyable to just have a change of scenery, if you know what I mean. When you’re working 12 and 14-hour days ever since Aug. 1, it’s great just to have a little time to decompress in a different environment.”

Lastly, Pat McAfee gassed Nick Saban up by telling him that his next run around he sun could be the best yet. But he joked back that his mom still isn’t sure whether that fateful night on Oct. 31, 1951 was a blessing or a curse.
“I hope so. But, you know, if you ask my mom, I still think, after all these years, she doesn’t know whether she got a trick or a treat.”
Well, Momma Saban may not know, but Alabama football fans would certainly consider the Nick Saban experience the treat of a lifetime after numerous national championships and more marquee wins than you could even count.
Out of the bye week, Alabama returns for their second straight home rivalry matchup against Heisman hopeful Jayden Daniels and the surging LSU Tigers.
