Alabama is entering the championship weekend with a matchup with Georgia in Atlanta between them and a conference title – if not a spot in the College Football Playoff. However, after their miraculous win in The Iron Bowl on Saturday, the Crimson Tide may not be entering Mercedes-Benz Stadium at full strength according to Nick Saban.

Saban addressed the status of Jase McClellan on the SEC Teleconference on Sunday. Due to a tweaked injury to his foot from this weekend against Auburn, ‘Bama’s leading rusher is “day-to-day” and will have the next two days to heal in a way that will decide if he can play against the Bulldogs or not.

“He’s had a little foot injury all year long. He tweaked it in the game. So he’ll be day-to-day this week but I can’t tell you how much progress he’ll make,” Saban said. “The next 48 hours will tell us whether he’ll make the kind of progress he needs to be able to practice (and) play in the game.”

McClellan rushed 15 times for 66 yards in the three-point win on The Plains this weekend. He also caught one pass for eight yards.

For the season, McClellan is the Tide’s RB1 with 166 carries for 803 yards and six touchdowns. He has caught 13 passes for 126 yards on the year as well.

We’ll have to see how this progresses from now through Tuesday or Wednesday in order to determine if McClellan can give it a go in the SEC Championship. If no positive news comes, though, a Top-20 offense with a Top-50 rushing attack could be at a disadvantage in their biggest game of the season.

Location: Atlanta, Ga.

With the early point spread set, both teams will arrive in Atlanta with some serious momentum. Georgia has won 45 of its last 46 games, with the lone loss in that span coming against Alabama in the 2021 SEC Championship Game. Alabama, meanwhile, has won 10 straight since losing an early season contest against Texas.

Still, the two teams have taken very different routes to get to Atlanta. Georgia has hardly broken a sweat while Alabama had to majorly shake things up following a loss to Texas.

As the early point spread indicates, though, this should be a competitive contest.
