Nick Saban details Vanderbilt offense following funny jab at question
During his weekly press conference, Alabama coach Nick Saban joked that the media in attendance were helping Vanderbilt with their questions. Saban was asked what he meant by saying Vanderbilt’s offense is different than they’re used to seeing, and he took the chance to make fun of how reporters always seem to ask about his secret gameplan.
Nick Saban jokes the media is helping Vanderbilt
In a much quicker than usual Wednesday press conference, Saban made time for a few jokes at other people’s expenses — including one poor reporter who asked Saban to clarify his own statement at the beginning of the conference. Saban took the podium speaking about how the Commodores offense was a different one than his squad was used to, but he didn’t seem ready to reveal what their focus was in case someone from Vanderbilt was thinking of eavesdropping.
“Well I’ll talk about their offense, I’m not talking about what we’re gonna do,” joked Saban. “Do you want me to tell what we’re gonna do so they know? I mean, I can just call their coaches and dial it up for you.”

“But, you know, there’s elements of option football in what they do and that’s not something that we see all the time. So our players gotta have really disciplined eye control and when the point of attack moves, they’ve gotta be able to adapt correctly and everybody play responsibility football. That’s what it comes down to. They’re very capable of throwing the ball as well, so you’ve gotta play good pass defense and not give up explosive plays while you’re trying to do that.
The Crimson Tide will host a 3-1 Vanderbilt team on Saturday whose only loss this year was to a ranked Wake Forest team as both teams look to start conference play on the right foot.
