WATCH: No ejection after helmet-to-helmet hit on Bryce Young following controversial targeting review
Controversy emerged in a big way after a controversial targeting review saw no ejection for Tennessee following a hit to Bryce Young. The Alabama star and former Heisman-winner was hit after throwing a pass as defensive lineman Omari Thomas crushed him on a hit.
Replay showed that the hit began with helmet-to-helmet contact by the lineman, and prompted a review by officials to determine if targeting had occurred. After the review, no ejections took place as the play was not ruled targeting — drawing outrage from Alabama fans who saw the replay.

Although it appeared that Thomas came in to the hit at an angle and didn’t appear to be locked onto Young’s head, the hit clearly showed on replay that his helmet crashed into Young’s face and drove him backwards with force into a teammate on the ground.
Young finished the drive despite the crushing hit and a lingering shoulder injury to keep Alabama competitive on the scoreboard after a barrage of early points from Tennessee, entering the half with a 28-20 deficit that was 28-10 at one point.
