Pat McAfee Show announces weekly segment with Alabama coach Nick Saban

The Pat McAfee Show made its debut on ESPN this week to much fanfare after an offseason of anticipation.

On Friday, the show welcomed Alabama head coach Nick Saban on for an interview, but the titular host also revealed that they plan to have the Crimson Tide skipper appear every Thursday of the season.

“This upcoming college football season will be one that will be for the books,” McAfee said. “Historians will talk about this season, not only because it’s the last one before the 12-team playoff, and the new conference realignment, but because this upcoming college football season, every single Thursday, we will be getting the incredible opportunity of chatting with head coach of Alabama, Nick Saban.”

“It’s an honor and a privilege for me,” Saban responded. “I appreciate the opportunity.”

During his first appearance, the national championship-winning head coach touched on a number of topics, including his young quarterback Jalen Milroe.

McAfee, 36, launched the show in 2019 following his departure from Barstool Sports. Known for his lively personality, McAfee gained acclaim for his weekly interviews with New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers throughout the 2021 and 2022 NFL regular seasons.

During the show’s first episode on Thursday, Pat McAfee also announced that they will have Rodgers on every Tuesday.

Pat McAfee Show uses Lou Holtz impersonation for disclaimer

The new show began on Thursday with a hilarious disclaimer for those who might get offended by the opinions espoused by the hosts or their NSFW language. Adding a little more character to it, they also made it a Lou Holtz impression.

“WARNING,” the message reads. “The following progrum is a collection of stooges talking about happenings in the sports world. It is meant to be comedic informative. The opinions expressed on this show do not necessarily reflect the beliefs of their peers, their boss, or ESPN. There may be some “cuss” words because that’s how humans in the real world talk. If you are a young, please seek permission before watching any further. Cheers, The Pat McAfee Show. p.s. Don’t sue us.”

McAfee exited his four-year, $120 million deal with FanDuel to make the jump to “The Worldwide Leader in Sports.” He managed to retain full creative control over the show, though he admitted there will be less f-bombs going forward.

“We ain’t changing a damn thing,” McAfee said after the news of the move broke. “That was literally the starter for every conversation with everybody this up to something season.”
