On Saturday, Alabama secured its second-straight win with a 42-13 victory over LSU. During an appearance on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, Paul Finebaum revealed how the win affects Alabama’s outlook this season.

“It was a master class. It was really incredible to watch,” Finebaum said. “I do remember, it was maybe about four weeks ago, standing with Greg in Knoxville, and he felt better about this team. And it kind of caught my attention a little bit. And I think what we’re seeing now, it’s just a little bit of patience from Kalen DeBoer not panicking after the Tennessee game.

“This team, right now, looks like a potential national championship team. Four weeks ago, it looked like they were maybe done for the season. It’s remarkable to watch. I think it was as equally positive on the Alabama side as it was negative on the LSU side. But right now, Alabama is in a perfect position.”

It’s a complete turnaround for Finebaum, who, only weeks ago, referred to Alabama as the biggest disappointment in college football this season. Nonetheless, the Crimson Tide have earned their flowers.

After suffering a 24-17 loss to Tennessee in Week 8, Alabama bounced back with a convincing 34-0 win over Missouri. After a bye week, the Crimson Tide showed no signs of slowing, handily defeating LSU.

In the victory, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe was spectacular, completing 12-of-18 passes for 109 yards without throwing an interception. However, where Milroe truly shined was in the ground game, where he amassed 185 rushing yards and four touchdowns on just 12 carries.

With the win, Alabama improved to 7-2 on the season and ascended to No. 9 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll. The ranking places Alabama firmly in contention for an at-wide berth in the College Football Playoff.

Finebaum believes something special is brewing in Tuscaloosa despite Alabama fans’ initial concerns earlier this season.

“There was a transformation,” Finebaum said. “Every Alabama fan understands the reality of the situation, that this team now is in a phenomenal position. I’d much rather be where Alabama is at the moment than a number of other schools, especially in the SEC.

“It’s maybe not surprising, but it’s a natural reaction. Alabama fans are great for a lot of reasons, but the most important reason they’re great is that they are so passionate. They pick out little things that should not matter.”
