This season, Alabama basketball has made it so that it’s impossible to ignore the team. Recently, the Crimson Tide went on the road and beat a top-ranked Houston team, climbing to fourth in the AP Top 25 Poll. Even Paul Finebaum, whose focus is normally on football, has had to acknowledge just how good this team is.

During an appearance on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, Paul Finebaum praised the Alabama basketball team, saying he’s paying attention to them earlier than normal.

“As somebody who grew up a basketball fan, it always started pretty early. But, I can tell you it started the other day when I was out Christmas shopping, for both of you by the way, and I kept checking my phone on the Alabama game,” Paul Finebaum said.

“That’s when you know that there’s an alertness to it, because a lot of times in November and December you just kind of shrug your shoulders when we have this avalanche of big-time games, whether they’re in the Islands or in the Caribbean or wherever. But, this was the first game I probably started really paying attention to, and it’s remarkable when you think about what Alabama has already accomplished.”

Paul Finebaum then explained that this run is going to be important for Alabama in the long run. If the team does run into struggles down the road, which he doesn’t think will happen, then this will help them come tournament time.

“If Alabama has a tough run in February and early March, they’ll be able to point back to November and December as their tickets to, not only, the tournament but a good seed,” Paul Finebaum said. “And I don’t think that’s gonna be an issue based on what we’ve seen from this team. These wins do matter for those non-basketball aficionados.”

Mark Sears says that Alabama is becoming a basketball school

The Alabama basketball team is turning a lot of heads this season. It led point guard Mark Sears to make a bold claim about what type of school Alabama is.

“We’re becoming a basketball school,” Mark Sears said.

It’s worth pointing out that he didn’t say the basketball team has surpassed the football team. That would be almost impossible. However, with a basketball team gaining in popularity, you can see how Alabama is embracing the program more and more.
