WATCH: Alabama players throw coach Travaris Robinson into the cold tub for his birthday
The Alabama football team showed that not even coaches were safe from their birthday tradition of throwing someone into the team’s cold tub. Cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, and the team dragged him into the team’s massive walk-in cold water pool before throwing him in.
Alabama coach goes in the cold tub
Earlier this year the Alabama team made a big show of the tradition when they dunked their Heisman-winning quarterback, Bryce Young, on his 21st birthday. Now the players have made it known that the only person who is likely safe from the hilarious tradition is head coach Nick Saban.
Alabama’s state-of-the-art facilities have been used for the birthday tradition in amazing fashion, as the players have access to a massive walk-in cold pool across from an identical hot pool. The room is normally used for recovery by the players, allowing them to walk through both pools to ice and relax their bodies. The ability to toss players and coaches into the freezing water is just an additional benefit of the pool’s size.
The former Auburn star and NFL cornerback joined Saban and the Crimson Tide this year as their defensive backs coach — his eighth team that he’s worked the position for since 2008. Robinson has worked at multiple high-level programs, including SEC rivals Auburn, Florida and South Carolina.

Robinson worked as defensive coordinator for South Carolina during his time with the Gamecocks, making him one of several Alabama assistant coaches with experience as a defensive coordinator.
During his playing days with the Tigers, Robinson played for Tommy Tuberville from 1999-2002 and earned first-team All-SEC honors. He finished his college career with 166 tackles and five interceptions before making the jump to the professional level. Robinson went undrafted, but made it to the NFL ranks for two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
