AJ McCarron weighs in on Bryce Young injury, draws eerie parallel
The city of Tuscaloosa is holding its breath as the reigning Heisman Trophy is out of Saturday’s game with an injury. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young was attempting to throw the ball away before getting tackled. One drive later, he threw a pass and knew he was in pain.
Speculation has begun to roll in, with former Crimson Tide quarterback AJ McCarron weighing in on the situation. McCarron said it’s a similar injury he has suffered twice throughout his career. If he turns out to be right, that’s not good news for Alabama.
“That fall from Bryce Young with his arm extended is 100% AC Joint and Labrum,” McCarron said. “I injured mine twice the exact same way extending my arm for the Goal line against (Tennessee) my Senior Yr and of all teams Arkansas my first year starting!”
McCarron did shed some positive light on Young’s injury, complementing the program’s medical staff. He even said Young could return and play through the game if necessary.
“They will shoot his shoulder up and he will be able to play through it,” said McCarron. “He has the best medical staff in the country with Dr. Cain and Best Training staff leader in the Country with Jeff Allen.”

Bryce Young questionable to return vs. Arkansas
Alabama was rolling against Arkansas, getting two early touchdowns in the SEC’s game of the week. The tide quickly shifted in a negative manner when quarterback Bryce Young left the game with what seemed to be a shoulder injury. Not anything you want to hear about the reigning Heisman Trophy winner.
But the update coming back onto the field for the second half was a positive one. The CBS Sports broadcast said Young will be “questionable” to return. After spending time in the medical tent and in the locker room, there’s now a chance the quarterback could return to action.
“You heard Nick Saban tell me that it was a shoulder injury going into the half,” sideline reporter Jenny Bell said. “I just was told he went in, got evaluated and now he is questionable to return.”
Prior to the beginning of the third quarter, Young was seen on the field not only with a helmet but also throwing some passes.
