College football insider: Notre Dame QB transfer Tyler Buchner could visit Alabama on Tuesday night
When Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner entered the NCAA transfer portal, Alabama was instantly viewed as a “logical landing spot.” New offensive coordinator Tommy Rees just completed spring practice with Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson competing but no real answers were provided.
Now, Rees could be hosting Buchner in the near future, figuring out if the quarterback would want to make a move to Tuscaloosa.
According to John Brice of Football Scoop, Buchner could visit Alabama as soon as Tuesday night. Placing the ‘do not contact’ tag when entering the portal, Buchner would have had to be the one reaching out to the Crimson Tide.
“Sources tell me @NDFootball QB Tyler Buchner is expected to visit @AlabamaFTBL as soon as tonight after entering the NCAA Transfer Portal today,” Brice said.
The On3 transfer portal rankings has Buchner listed as the No. 27 quarterback to enter this cycle. However, when you slim the list down to guys who are available at the moment, he sits at No. 3.
Sam Hartman, who is expected to take over as the Notre Dame starter, has held the top quarterback spot and sits second overall behind Colorado‘s Travis Hunter.
Buchner began the 2022 season in charge of the Notre Dame offense, working with Rees. An injury kept him out of 10 games though, just playing in the opening two and then the Fighting Irish’s bowl game. In those three games, Buchner threw for 651 yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions with a completion percentage of 55.4%.

Alabama surely will not be the only school wanting to get Buchner on campus. But for now, Buchner will be able to dictate who he is in contact with. A visit with Rees and head coach Nick Saban seems to be the first step of the overall process.
Track transfer portal activity
While the NCAA transfer portal database is private, the On3 Network has streamlined the reporting process tracking player movement.
If you find yourself asking, ‘How can I track transfer portal activity?’ our well-established network of reporters and contacts across college athletics keeps you up to speed in several ways, from articles written about players as they enter and exit the transfer portal or find their new destination, to our social media channels, to the On3 Transfer Portal.
The transfer portal wire provides a real-time feed of player activity, including basic player profile information, transfer portal ranking and original On3 Consensus recruiting ranking, as well as NIL valuation (name, image and likeness).
The On3 Transfer Portal Instagram account and senior national college football reporter Matt Zenitz’s Twitter account are excellent resources to stay up to date with the latest moves.
