Report: Witness in Darius Miles capital murder trial killed in motorcycle crash
A witness in the capital murder case of former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles died Sunday, according to Carol Robinson of AL.com.
Shu’bonte Tyler Green, 24, died in a motorcycle crash. According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Green was killed in a crash when he was hit by a drunk while driving his motorcycle at 8:13 p.m. Sunday night.
He was pronounced dead 26 minutes later as he was taken to UAB Hospital. Greene was a witness in the capital murder case against Miles and Miles’ friend Michael Davis stemming from January 15, 2023.
Greene was a close friend of Cedric Johnson, the boyfriend of Jamea Jonae Harris whom was killed in the incident. Miles is charged with her death.
Greene was a witness the night of the murder and he testified in a 2023 immunity hearing but was reportedly largely uncooperative. He was the driver of a Chevy Impala that night that had stopped and had its trunk open.
Defense attorney’s claimed someone removed a shotgun from the trunk of the car that night and fired it during the shooting.
Investigators previously said the gun used to kill Harris, 23, belonged to Miles but Davis is the one who pulled the trigger.
Back in August, state prosecutors said they would not seek the death penalty against Miles. The death penalty was only in play due to Miles being charged with capital murder.

Instead, the harshest punishment Miles can face is life in prison without parole. He is being tried separately from Davis however.
More on Darius Miles, capital murder case
In the early morning of Jan. 15, 2023, Jamea Harris was killed near the Strip in Tuscaloosa. Just hours later, Miles was arrested for his involvement and eventually charged with capital murder. He was arrested alongside Davis, who received the same charge.
The incident occurred following a win for the Alabama Men’s Basketball team. LSU was in town, getting blown out by the Crimson Tide at Coleman Coliseum. Miles did not appear in the game and was instead on the bench supporting his teammates.
Miles spent three seasons on the Alabama roster. Heading into the 2022-2023 season, he was expected to see an increased role under head coach Nate Oats. Injuries lingered and he was ruled out for the season on the day of the LSU game.
Once Miles was arrested, Oats kicked him off of the team. The incident stuck with the program throughout the rest of the season, with it being the main storyline through an NCAA Tournament run to a Sweet Sixteen.
