Alabama is reportedly set to hire Maryland baseball coach Rob Vaughn as the team’s next head coach, according to John Talty.

Vaughn will replace the outgoing Brad Bohanon, who was fired amid a betting scandal earlier this season. Interim coach Jason Jackson took over and led the Crimson Tide to the Super Regional this season.

Jackson is expected to stay on as the top assistant coach under Vaugh, per Talty.

Vaughn was 183-115 overall as a head coach with the Terrapins. He coached the team starting in 2018 and was an assistant with the Terps from 2013-17. He also served as an assistant at Kansas State from 2011-12.

Over the last three seasons, Vaughn led Maryland to the NCAA Regional round. In 2023, Maryland won the Big Ten conference crown in the regular season, as well as the tournament.

Now, Alabama has one of the hottest coaches in college baseball.

Alabama falls to Wake Forest in Super Regional

It was a rough Game 2 for Alabama and Jackson. The Crimson Tide fell 22-5 to Wake Forest and saw their season come to an end.

“I’ve done this a long time, and I’ve never been more proud of a group of individuals than I am of this group,” Jackson said postgame. I think they are everything that is good about college athletics. I think they are everything that is good about the world today. The character they’ve shown and the resiliency they’ve shown these past couple of months, I think serve as a great example to hopefully a lot of people.”

The Crimson Tide went 3-0 in the Tuscaloosa Regional as a host. They beat Nicholls, Troy and Boston College over the course of three days.

But a 5-4 loss and blowout loss to Wake Forest back-to-back days ended the year for Alabama. Now, Vaughn reportedly steps in.

Drew Williamson and Jim Jarvis were high on Jackson as the interim head coach.

“He couldn’t have done any more perfect of a job,” Williamson said postgame after the loss to the Demon Deacons. “I can say honestly that I would go to war for this guy. I’ve loved the time that I’ve got to spend playing for him and I hope that somebody will give him a shot somewhere else because they will not regret it. He’s a great dude, great coach. Just great all around and I really enjoyed having him.”

With Vaughn reportedly coming in, it’ll be a new era of Alabama baseball.
