Ryan Williams is ready to play with whatever quarterback throws him the football this season. The Alabama sophomore wide receiver broke out as a 17-year-old freshman last season with QB Jalen Milroe.

This year, it’ll be one of Ty Simpson, Austin Mack or Keelon Russell under center with Williams to throw to all year long. While Williams doesn’t know who’s going to win, he has an idea.

But, the wideout is ready for whichever QB and is excited by what he sees in the competition. It’s making everyone better.

“I mean the tape speaks for itself. We have three very good quarterbacks,” Williams said on The College GameDay Podcast. “And I mean, either way that it goes, I’m comfortable and confident in any of those guys, just because I’ve seen the work that they put in. They all have different tendencies. But you know, like, Ty is the front runner right now so you know, just trying to build a relationship with not only him but the rest of them of course and just get prepared for this season. We’re super excited.”

Earlier in May, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer revealed why Simpson was the frontrunner, as Williams alluded to. He seemingly has the most juice at the moment.

“Ty continues to, I think, trend upward,” DeBoer said during the Tide’s post-spring press conference. “I think all of them have really added to their game. They’re all at different spots because Keelon’s learning the system. The other two know it better, for sure. And Ty has been around and just has done a nice job. I think the trending upward is a big piece of it. Ty is an accurate thrower.

“There’s always gonna be balls that every guy wants back, but I think the ability to learn from your mistakes, learn from other people’s mistakes, be able to comprehend, not be overwhelmed, I think that he’s just had more time. But they’re all doing a lot of really good things together as a group.”

As a freshman, Williams had 48 catches for 865 yards, eight touchdowns and 18 yards per catch. His claim to fame was his go-ahead touchdown against Georgia, showing off tremendous footwork and balance.

Whether it’s Simpson or someone else, Williams can make his QB’s job easier with more plays like that. It’ll certainly lead to more Alabama success in 2025.
