Alabama wide receiver Thaiu Jones-Bell has been removed from the program’s online roster. The redshirt junior had participated in spring camp but will not be returning to campus to play football this fall.

He played in 12 games over the past three seasons with four catches for 19 yards marking his offensive output. He also played on special teams.

Jones-Bell was a four-star recruit coming out of Hallandale (Fla.) Miami Carol City. He was the No. 143 overall recruit and No. 24 wide receiver in the 2020 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He is the sixth wide receiver to leave the program since the end of last season. Aaron Anderson, JoJo Earle, Tyler Harrell, Traeshon Holden and Christian Leary all entered the transfer portal during the offseason.

Jimmy Stein ranked the returning Alabama players from last season’s roster and transfer portal additions earlier this season and placed Jones-Bell in 58th out of 59 players.

“This past season, Alabama was looking for playmakers outside and this highly touted prospect from south Florida could not nail down a spot in the rotation. At least not yet. He will enter his fourth spring in Tuscaloosa in search of a spot in the rotation, a steady role. Thaiu could also find a spot on special teams units,” Stein wrote.

“Jones-Bell was a top 20 prospect in Florida following his career at Miami-Carrol City. There is some talent to be found here. Sometimes it’s late-blooming. He can play in the slot and has some vertical ability outside. He was also a great punt return prospect.”
