Tim Smith raves about growth of Alabama’s offensive line group
One group for Alabama that has received a lot of attention during the offseason is the offensive line. This unit has responded well, growing throughout the spring according to Tim Smith.
Smith, a defensive lineman for the Crimson Tide, explained how the offensive line has improved following the spring game.
“Fall is gonna be crazy,” Tim Smith said. “Offensive line is gonna be amazing. I feel like all across the line from right tackle to the left tackle, all of those guys have definitely grown, especially from last spring, you know what I’m saying?”
Tim Smith came to Alabama as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2020. He was the 45th ranked player overall in the class and has made his impact felt on the field. He has 9.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks during his time at Alabama.
“Shout out to JC Latham. Strong dude. Really hard, he’s one of those guys you gotta really gameplan against. But as far as our offensive line, I don’t see anyone getting through that this year, man. We’ve got a lot of work still going, we just finished the spring, we’ve got a summer to finish up, get our bodies right. But, for the fall, all that’s going to come together.”
Tim Smith was then asked, more specifically, about the right side of the offensive line.
“Oh, definitely,” Smith laughed. “Definitely. I feel like, for me, I like going against them. It’s a lot of work. It’s not just a pushover. It’s good on good. You know what I’m saying? Nobody wants to be embarrassed at practice and this is my life. Yeah, that side is definitely doing it over there.”
Ahead of spring practice, head coach Nick Saban had emphasized that he was happy with the offensive line overall but wanted more depth at the position.

“I like the players that we have in the offensive line. I think we have some bigger, more physical players. I think they obviously don’t have as much experience, but I like the attitude, I like their temperament, I like their toughness. I think the No. 1 thing is we’ve got to create some depth at that position,” Saban said.
“We probably lost more players than we gained even though the players that we gained we’re excited about how they can contribute and what their future might be. Probably need to add a little depth at that position.”
Darrian Dalcourt shared the message from Nick Saban to the Alabama offensive line
While speaking after practice this spring, Alabama offensive lineman Darrian Dalcourt shared the message from Nick Saban to the team’s offensive line.
“I know the main message for us at the offense line is, you know, play disciplined football, cut down on penalties, you know, become a discipline team, don’t shoot ourselves in the foot — stuff like that,” Dalcourt said.
“But I know specifically for offensive line just, you know, listen to what the coaching is and I’ll listen to Coach Wolf, take his word for it.”
