Tim Smith talks about returning to the Alabama standard in 2023
Over the past couple of seasons, Alabama has struggled to live up to expectations. However, as defensive lineman Tim Smith explained, Crimson Tide are looking to return to the Alabama standard in 2023.
Smith broke down why Alabama’s standard hasn’t changed and what that means following the team’s spring game.
“I feel like it’s the same as it is, the standard,” Tim Smith said. “All eleven hats to the ball. Get the ball out, fast, physical. Do your assignment. Do your job. Just keep it like that.”
After that, Smith was asked what the Alabama standard actually meant to him. He explained that it goes back to doing your job and taking care of business.
“Being more disciplined. You know what I’m saying? We got a lot of guys not doing every play that they’re supposed to. So, like I said, just being disciplined,” Smith explained.
“Making sure you do your key, like I mentioned, like I was playing defensive line. There’s eleven of us on the field. So, like, we need all eleven to do their job. If I have this guy, you have this guy, you make sure you stay on yours and do the right thing.”
Tim Smith raved about the offensive linemen
One big question for Alabama coming into the 2023 season is the offensive line. However, if Tim Smith is right, the offensive line has taken great strides forward this offseason.

“Fall is gonna be crazy. Offensive line is gonna be amazing. I feel like all across the line from right tackle to the left tackle, all of those guys have definitely grown, especially from last spring, you know what I’m saying?” Smith said.
“Shout out to JC Latham. Strong dude. Really hard, he’s one of those guys you gotta really gameplan against. But as far as our offensive line, I don’t see anyone getting through that this year, man. We’ve got a lot of work still going, we just finished the spring, we’ve got a summer to finish up, get our bodies right. But, for the fall, all that’s going to come together.”
Tim Smith was then asked a follow up question about competing against the right side of the offensive line, which he enjoys doing.
“Oh, definitely. Definitely. I feel like, for me, I like going against them. It’s a lot of work. It’s not just a pushover. It’s good on good. You know what I’m saying? Nobody wants to be embarrassed at practice and this is my life. Yeah, that side is definitely doing it over there.”
