While it’s certainly an honor to suit up for a program as prestigious as the Alabama Crimson Tide football program, there are many different challenges the team has to face as well. The Tide get everybody’s best shot, week in, week out. And they got another fresh reminder of that, after the South Carolina Gamecocks gave them a serious scare on Saturday afternoon. The Tide survived, pulling out the win 27-25.

Shortly after the close win, Alabama, defensive lineman Tim Smith recognized how every team they face is always going to be fired up to play them.

“Absolutely. I caught onto that my freshman year. I had a whole SEC schedule in 2020, my freshman year. Absolutely. Playing in the SEC gonna be hard back-to-back-to-back. We play at Alabama. You know what I’m saying? We everybody’s Super Bowl. Like Saban say rat poison…That’s one of the fantastic things about the SEC. Everybody wants to win,” Smith explained.

Alabama struggled with South Carolina pass rush

Alabama had the same problems that everybody has had with the South Carolina pass rush this season. Kyle Kennard and Dylan Stewart are truly two of the best defensive line prospects in the nation and it’s easy to see once you watch the game tape. They both figure to be top level NFL prospects whenever their time comes. Kennard pressured Jalen Milroe on a key play that forced an Alabama safety.

Kennard had two sacks and three tackles for loss, simply flying into the backfield on a number of occasions. He and Stewart are absolutely breathtaking to watch together. Alabama couldn’t figure out any answers to block Kennard and Stewart, but then again, neither has anyone else in college football. They’re massive reasons why the South Carolina pass rush is so special in 2024.
