Tim Tebow is aboard the Jalen Milroe train. During an appearance on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Friday, Tebow commented on Alabama’s decision to reinstate Milroe as the team’s starting quarterback.

“I like that they went back to Jalen Milroe. I think he gives them the best chance to win. I don’t even think it’s close,” Tebow said. “He’s one of the more electric, explosive players in the country. And he’s only started less than a handful of games. You’ve got to also give him the chance and the experience to adapt.”

Jalen Milroe’s mixed reviews

A handful is generous. Milroe only started two games for the Crimson Tide before being sidelined in Week 3. Alabama head coach Nick Saban decided to bench Milroe after the redshirt sophomore completed just 51.9% of his passes for 255 yards and two interceptions in a 34-24 loss to Texas.

The harsh reaction was a stark contrast from the praise Milroe received in Week 1. In Alabama’s 56-7 win over Middle Tennessee State in Week 1, Milroe threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns. Additionally, the 6-foot-2 QB rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries.

Adapting the offense to a unique talent

Milroe’s diverse skillset leaves Saban and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees no shortage of options. Tebow is excited to see how the duo utilizes their versatile QB.

“It’s going to be really interesting to see what type of offense Alabama runs,” Tebow said. “Are you going to run maybe what Tommy Rees and the staff feels more comfortable with, or are you going to run what Jalen feels more comfortable with?

“[Milroe] is dynamic, he’s a very good passer down the field, but that’s not necessarily in some of the three-level concepts as much as it is some of the fades and the inside rail releases, the inside technique fades. I thought he’s thrown those extremely well. I also like some of his screen game, getting it out quick, and then the zone-read with he RPO off of it. I think if that’s the gameplan coming in, you have an offense that can be dynamic.”

With such a unique option behind center, Alabama can’t run a generic offense. It would be like forcing a square peg in a circular hole. The Crimson Tide don’t have many other options. After sitting Milroe in Week 3, Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson failed to impress.

Need more than Jalen Milroe

With Milroe back at the helm, Alabama diehards have high hopes. Nonetheless, Tebow insists the fate of the Crimson Tide’s season can’t fall solely on Milroe’s shoulders.

“It has to be the team. It has to be the offensive line, the running backs, it has to be the coaching staff, the defensive line. It’s not all on Jalen. I just think it’s really important to mention that,” Tebow said. “There’s a whole team that has to step up, it’s not just on the quarterback.”

Milroe will attempt to regain his glory this weekend. On Saturday, No. 13 Alabama will face off against No. 15 Ole Miss at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
