Tommy Seidl puts Alabama ahead 1-0 with first-inning solo home run vs. Auburn
An elimination game between Alabama and Auburn at the SEC Tournament is underway, and it didn’t take long for a Tommy Seidl home run to open the scoring.
After Auburn went three up, three down in the top of the first inning, Alabama headed to the dugout to ready for the bottom half. A leadoff groundout from shortstop Jim Jarvis opened things before Seidl stepped to the plate.
He saw one pitch, letting it go for a ball. Then he got one he liked.
Eyeing the change-up, Tommy Seidl let rip and blasted the ball over the wall in left center field to give Alabama an early 1-0 lead.
Alabama and Auburn are meeting in an elimination game in the double-elimination portion of the SEC Tournament after stumbling on Wednesday.
Auburn fell to Vanderbilt 6-4 in the late game on Wednesday evening, unable to keep the Commodores off the scoreboard in the sixth, seventh and eighth inning as they pulled away.
The Tigers tried to rally, scoring two runs in the top of the ninth inning, but ultimately came up short of a thrilling comeback.

Alabama, on the other hand, fell victim to a thrilling comeback.
The Crimson Tide were knotted up with the Florida Gators 3-3 after nine innings, and the game went to extra innings. Seidl hit a three-run double in the top of the 11th inning to give Alabama what looked to be a commanding 6-3 lead.
Florida had other ideas.
The Gators quickly got to sophomore right-handed pitcher Aidan Moza and chased him from the game. Freshman left-handed Alton Davis II would have the unfortunate distinction of trying to put out the fire, unsuccessfully.
Jac Caglianone and Josh Rivera both hit back-to-back singles to scratch across a run and make it 6-4 Alabama in the bottom of the 11th. Then catcher BT Riopelle stepped to the plate with two runners aboard.
He smashed a three-run homer to give Florida a dramatic 7-6 walk-off win. It was the first time in SEC Tournament history that a team has come back from down three runs in extra innings to win.
