Urban Meyer, Mark Ingram break down what Georgia win means for Kalen DeBoer
Alabama‘s win over Georgia served as an early signature win for Kalen DeBoer in his first season as the Crimson Tide’s head coach.
The victory solidified Alabama as college football’s new No. 1 team, and puts the Crimson Tide back on the map as a College Football Playoff contender immediately under DeBoer’s regime. According to Urban Meyer, who won national titles at both Florida and Ohio State, this is a program-shifting victory for the Crimson Tide.
“[Recruits] know who he is now,” Meyer said during the Triple Option podcast with Mark Ingram and Rob Stone. “That’s how important that win, and more importantly, the recruiting piece.”
Meyer compared Alabama’s win to Georgia to his coaching days. In 2005, Meyer’s Florida Gators defeated a ranked Florida State team 34-7. Meyer credited that for being the catalyst for some of best recruiting classes to come through Gainesville, and in turn his next couple of team’s successes went on to be rewrite college football history books. “I think I took 100 commitments that day,” he said.
Ingram, an Alabama alum who won a Heisman Trophy under former head coach Nick Saban, applauded DeBoer for stepping into a job with little margin for error and flourishing under the national spotlight. Igram said the win over Georgia proved that DeBoer is the right man to take over the Alabama program.

“They have a solid foundation, they’re stable, the recruits are there, the players are bought in,” Ingram continued. “He has the support of the fans — support of everyone at Crimson Tide nation.
“Alabama is here to stay. Alabama is still on top of the college football world, and they hate to see it. But we love to say it. Roll damn Tide.”
Ingram appears to be fired up for DeBoer’s leadership in Tuscaloosa, and it seems those on Alabama’s roster do, too. Looking ahead to their Week 6 matchup against Vanderbilt, there’s no signs of slowing down the Crimson Tide during year one of its new regime.
