Urban Meyer speculates on what happens to Kalen DeBoer if Alabama goes under win total

It’s never too early to talk college football and the fine folks at The Triple Option podcast opened up on Alabama in a recent episode. Expectations remain sky high for the Crimson Tide.
But coming off a lackluster first season under coach Kalen DeBoer, the question is whether Alabama can get it going again. With quarterback Jalen Milroe gone, there’s plenty of retooling to be done.
Las Vegas has set the over/under win total for Alabama at 9.5 games. Urban Meyer dished on that topic.
“I think they’ll win over 9.5. Or win double-digit games,” Meyer said. “The question I have: What happens if they don’t? Will they pull the plug? Is that the kind of school — you know, Ohio State and Florida… Florida’s in a different place now, but there was a time where if you weren’t in that double-digit, it was out. At Ohio State I would imagine that coach (Ryan) Day has bought a little time. Obviously, my God, what are we talking about?
“But as much as I think it’s neat to talk about will it be 9.5, I don’t care. What does Alabama do if they don’t hit it?”
That may not be a question DeBoer wants to answer. Things in any SEC town get heated if things aren’t going well. In Tuscaloosa? At Alabama? Forget about it.

“It’s going to be spicy out there,” chimed in former Alabama running back Mark Ingram. “I believe in coach DeBoer. I think his philosophy I think is really good for this new age of college football. But at the end of the day, how we finished the season last year with controlling our own destiny and then laying an egg versus Oklahoma, and then not getting in the playoff, and then laying an egg in the bowl game.
“You come out and you don’t have a chance to go to the College Football Playoff and you don’t win double-digit games? I don’t know if they move. I don’t know if they pull the plug. But I know it’s going to turn up.”
While noting that he doesn’t think Alabama would move on after just two seasons, Ingram did acknowledge that it’s a possibility. Particularly if things look ugly on the field.
“I know that seat is going to be extremely warm going towards hot,” the former Heisman Trophy winner said. “So I think he has three years to be able to turn this thing around and get it back going where everyone is happy. But it’s tough, man. It depends on what the second year looks like. It’s a big season.”
