Washington transfer tight end Josh Cuevas commits to Alabama
Another Washington player is following head coach Kalen DeBoer to Tuscaloosa. Former Huskies tight end Josh Cuevas has committed to Alabama, he announced via X on Monday. A nice get for the Crimson Tide at a position of need.
Cuevas officially entered the NCAA transfer portal on Feb. 5, spending two weeks looking for a place to continue his college football career. Alabama will be his third stop after going to Cal Poly, an FCS program, coming out of high school.
Washington made a run to a national championship and Cuevas played in all 15 games. He finished with four receptions for 164 yards and one touchdown on the offensive end. DeBoer also deployed Cuevas out there on special teams, finishing with three tackles.
Cuevas played high school football at Campbell Hall School in Los Angeles (CA), where he was an unrated, unranked recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Josh Cuevas makes fourth Washington player to transfer to Alabama
Alabama has seen a few players leave the program through the portal but has done a nice job reloading since DeBoer took over. Cuevas is now the fourth former Washington player to make the jump down South and not surprisingly, all of them are on the offensive end.

Quarterback Austin Mack got the party started, being the first commitment of the DeBoer era. He was quickly joined by wide receiver Germie Bernard and offensive lineman Parker Brailsford. Both of them are expected to make an immediate impact on the Alabama offense.
Tight end was an area where Alabama may have been trying to improve. Armani Niblack decided to leave and will play the 2024 season for the Texas Longhorns. Cuevas now adds to the roster and could have the opportunity to get playing time.
Caleb Odom, a true freshman and a member of the 2024 recruiting class, could receive early playing time. Former Maryland transfer CJ Dipree is still with Alabama as well.
The Crimson Tide are likely not done with roster additions, especially with the spring portal window upcoming. Maybe another Washington player will find a way to get in the mix.
